Our comprehensive range of pallet sizes and service options make it just as easy to ship freight across the UK or across the globe.

What are European
pallet deliveries?

Essentially, European pallet deliveries are palletised goods that start their journey domestically (in the UK) and are transported via one or more vehicles to a destination within the Eurozone. For goods to be considered palletised, they must be secured on a standard pallet and wrapped for shipment. Goods can be secured with cling film, netting or other ties for transport. The most common pallet material is wood, but other materials are available. Goods are measured and then booked for collection.

Booked consignments are collected by a fleet vehicle driver. That vehicle then transports your goods to a central hub where it is allocated to another vehicle for its journey into Europe. Once on the continent, the pallets will likely be scanned again through a European hub and loaded onto the final transport vehicle. At the destination in Europe, your goods are unloaded onto the nearest flat, hard and accessible surface then signed for by the recipient.

Benefits of Shared
Distribution Networks

Previously, that entire journey would be taken by a single-vehicle at great fuel cost and wastage. Thankfully, the field of logistics has moved beyond such inefficient methods to the hub and spoke model used today. Individual transport companies (like 4S Distribution) operate as territory owners for individual ‘spokes’ and feed all their consignments through a central ‘hub’ for both domestic and European pallet deliveries.

In the hub, pallets are then allocated to the ‘spoke’ provider for the destination address so there is little to no overlap and trucks are as full as possible. So, if you wanted to get a pallet from Liverpool to Paris, your consignment might travel from Liverpool to the hub and join 10 other pallets bound for France via Eurotunnel Freight. Once in France, the pallets would be loaded onto lorries specific to the destination addresses; combined with parcels from dozens of other countries, also going to those postcodes.

Then, determine what extras you might need like next day or a timed delivery. (Don’t worry, economy delivery is always available at no extra charge and all of our fleet vehicles have tail-lifts.) You’ll also need to input the starting and ending postcodes for your pallet’s journey.

Lastly, just confirm the consignment on our online portal and prep your goods for transport. If you need help with securing and wrapping your pallets, we can provide this for a small £15 fee. We recommend clingfilm or netting be used to wrap your pallets securely for collection.
